Health Science and Technical Workforce
Consultation on the Phase 1 Health Science and Technical Workforces Working Group report indicated there was support in the sector for looking further at how the health science and technical workforces could be better coordinated in terms of education and training programmes and workforce planning.
The Phase 2 Health Science and Technical Workforces Working Group was established following the consultation and nomination process in 2012. The Group’s role is to consider how a more consistent approach to training across the health science and technical professions might be achieved. The outcome of the Group’s work programme is expected to include recommendations to achieve nationally consistent training standards across the health-related science and technical professions, greater flexibility for career change, and alignment of training and future workforce planning.
The Group has developed a multi-disciplinary education framework that it envisages will be applicable to allied health and the science and technical professions. A document setting out the proposed education framework and how it would work, using examples of specific professions will be submitted to the HWNZ Board and is expected to be released for discussion in the health and health education sectors in the middle of the year.
